National Cotton Planting Intention Survey --- January, 2014

By the beginning of February, 2014, China Cotton Association Cotton Farmer Cooperation and Xinjiang Huatai Cotton Professional Cooperation conducted the second cotton planting intentions survey of 2014 to 2,724 cotton planting units in 12 Provinces and 310 counties, cities, and PCC regiments. The survey result shows the national planting intension decreased by 8.93% over the year, similar with earlier projection, the cotton planting acreage of 2014 estimates to be 63.69 million mu nationwide, which based on calculation of 2013 CCA acreage statistics.
The agriculture policy document in 2014 announced cotton target subsidy trials in Xinjiang, the details are yet to come. In South Xinjiang the temperature regained and Spring sowing for cotton is in preparation. It is projected cotton acreage in Xinjiang will have smaller decline rate than that in inland, where the policy advantage loses and planting cost continues to increase.
