China Cotton Import Monthly Report - October, 2013

In October, according to Customs, China imported cotton of 141,200 ton, the decrease rate was 29.9% by 60,000 ton over the month, and down by 48.1% Y/Y. Average import price was 2,183 USD/ton, 13 USD down over September, 4.5% less Y/Y. The cumulative import volume during January to October in 2013 was 3,368,000 ton, 21.7% down over the corresponding time last year. The import of the first two months in 2013/14 season was 342,500 ton, 36% less than the corresponding time.
The only increase in different trading modes was processing with supplied materials. The inbound and outbound goods in bonded warehouses declined the furthest, and the general trade was still the largest share of more than 40%.
For the month, Brazil cotton import increased while all the other origins declined. Australia cotton remained the top for four months in succession, taking share of nearly 60%.
The average import price for general trade and processing with supplied materials declined by 3.43% and 3.58% separately, processing by imported materials was up by 0.35%, logistic good under special custom supervision increased by 1.52% and goods in areas under special customs supervision increased by 0.93%.
As for the five main sources, Brazil price increased by 3.63%, Uzbekistan increased by 40.29%, Australia, US and India declined by 0.61%, 7.23% and 3% separately.
The port destinations mainly are Qingdao, Shanghai and Nanjing, all three accounted for more than 70% of the arrivals. Most buyers are from Shandong, Jiangsu and Beijing, accounted for nearly 70% of the total import volume.
